ROSWELL — Lee Knox of Augusta shot a final-round 73 and finished at 6-under-par 282, holding off a charge from defending champion David Noll Jr. of Dalton to win his second Georgia Amateur Championship by one shot.
Noll, who shot 69-69 on the weekend, fell just short of his third Georgia Amateur title by finishing at 283. Three players tied for third at 285, including David Yowell of Marietta, Michael Garretson of Acworth and Matt Russell of Dunwoody.
Former Darton golfer Ridge Purcell, who was in the hunt earlier this weekend when he closed to fifth place after the second round, finished tied for eighth with first-round co-leader Robert Sheats of Atlanta, at 290.
Georgia Southwestern golfer J.P. Griffin shot a 1-under 71 and finished tied 13th at 293 while GSW teammate Nate Gahman, a Lee County grad and former Herald Player of the Year, shot a 2-under 70 to finish tied for 21st.
Austin McNeill, a 2012 Darton grad, shot an 85 on Sunday and finished 71st.
