ALBANY, Ga. — Dougherty County School Board at-large candidate Lane Price, who is running against incumbent Anita Williams-Brown, issued the following statement late Thursday in regard to the Georgia Department of Education’s decision to withold federal funding to the DCSS until the system provides documentation in regard to questionable Title I expenditures:
“The announcement by the State Board of Education that funding for the Dougherty County School System will be held pending our system meeting compliance is solid proof that change is necessary.
“These monies provide financial assistance to schools with high percentages of children from low-income families and are granted to help ensure that all children can meet today’s challenging academic standards. They are essential for our children and schools to function.
“This is an outrage and an embarrassment. The time is now for the citizens of this town to take back control of our education system — to ensure a future for our children and for the future of this city. We can no longer continue down this path of substandard behavior and inefficiencies.
“As the At-Large member of our Board of Education, I will hold our administration accountable to ensure the best education and futures for our children.”
