Local golfers shine at GSGA Junior Challenge Match

VALDOSTA — Moultrie’s Marin Hannah and Taylor Marie Griner took home co-medalists honors in the girls 14-13 division and Sherwood Christian’s Tyler Hanson finished fifth in the boys 14-15 division in the Georgia State Golf Association’s 39th Annual Junior Sectional Challenge Match at the Valdosta Country Club, where several youth golfers from Southwest Georgia competed in the two-day event.

Hannah and Griner shot two-day totals of 153 to share the title, and Hanson fired a 152 to finish fifth. Leesburg’s Chase McLain shot a 167 and finished 15th in the boys’ 14-15 bracket, and Pelham’s Brock Allen finished 18th in the boys 12-13 division with a 179.

There was also a two-day, nine-hole competition. Moultrie’s Peyton Clark took home fifth (79), Albany’s Ethan Davidson was 10th (84) and Moultrie’s Lance Blanchett was 12th (92) in the boys 11-and-under category.

Elizabeth Funderburk of Moultrie took third (83) and Moultrie’s Alexis Griner (88) was eighth in the girls 12-13 division, and Grace Jarvis of Moultrie finished seventh (126) in the girls 11-and-under division.
