AMERICUS — The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office as well as agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are soliciting information that may lead to the arrest of a murder suspect.
Law enforcement officials are looking into a club shooting that took place early Sunday in Americus that, as of Monday, had left one person dead and another hospitalized.
The incident occurred at 3:45 a.m. Sunday at the Astro Club on Sunset Park Drive, GBI special agent-in-charge Danny Jackson said.
The shooting is thought to have happened outside the club following an altercation.
Richard Willis, 25, one of the shooting victims, died as a result of a gunshot wound to the head after being taken off life support on Monday morning. Although from Atlanta, Willis had been living in the area recently.
He is a former student of South Georgia Technical College.
Jackson would not release the name of the other individual who had been injured, but did say he was in intensive care Monday after sustaining a gunshot wound to the lower torso.
“Hopefully, he will be OK,” Jackson said of the other victim.
No arrests had been made as of Monday afternoon in connection to the incident, Jackson added.
Authorities are following up on leads and conducting interviews. Those with more information are encouraged to contact the GBI or the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
