Emergency responders rush to crash

Officials responded Tuesday to a crash the corner of North Van Buren Street and West Second Avenue.

Officials responded Tuesday to a crash the corner of North Van Buren Street and West Second Avenue.

ALBANY, Ga. — A red Dodge Ram 1600 pickup and a Ford Pickup collided, flipping the Ford upside down and snapping a metal power pole at West Second Avenue and North Van Buren Street around 4:50 p.m. Tuesday.

Two Albany High School students and a third high school age boy were reportedly taken from the blue pickup to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital by Dougherty County EMS ambulance.

No information on the injured was immediately available. Trevor Baxter, Albany High band director, identified two of the injured as Joseph Mathis and Kieran Taylor.

“They were on their way with a friend to band practice,” Baxter said.

Speaking to Albany Police Department officers, the driver of the Dodge Ram appeared in good condition after the crash. He was given a ride home by his father, an officer confirmed.

Neighbors watching the police, Albany Fire Department staff and wrecker crews investigate and clear the scene said the intersection is dangerous.

The intersection is at the south end of Hilsman Park where stop signs are posted on leading West Third Avenue and West Second Avenue.

“This intersection has a lot of traffic to and from Phoebe,” said Deborah Green, a Van Buren Street resident. “There is always a crash along here since I’ve been living here for five years.”

The article doesn't tell the part of how the Ford pulled out in front of Dodge. The police officer doing the report said they collided just right to where it could have flipped at even 10 mph.

Actually, it doesn't. The officer doing the report said they collided at just the right spot that the Ford could have flipped with the Dodge doing 10 mph. The Dodge wasn't speeding, as you assume. This article fails to mention that the driver of the Ford was a 15 year old with a learner's permit and he pulled out in front of the Dodge.
