ALBANY, Ga. -- Joseph Centel Lawson, 18, was buried in Crown Hill Cemetery Friday after dying in a pickup crash about six miles north of Douglas May 26.
Lawson, 18, moved to Wingate, N.C., about 18 months ago, his Wednesday obituary stated. He was a welder with Southern Fabricators.
According to a Georgia State Patrol report, Lawson was a passenger in a 1997 Ford Ranger headed north on State Highway 135 when the driver, 18-year-old Joseph Emanuel Beauchamp of Hazelhurst, lost control of the pickup.
The Ford Ranger "traveled onto the east shoulder, crossed back over the roadway, left the road on the west shoulder, struck a ditch and overturned. Lawson was ejected and killed."
Beauchamp and the other passenger, 14-year-old Madison McCloud of Nichols, who was also ejected from the pickup, suffered injuries and were taken to Coffee Regional Medical Center. No information on their condition was available Friday.
The report stated, "Charges against the driver are pending the completion of the follow-up investigation by the Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team."
