ALBANY -- Arthur R. Donahoue (SMSGT- USAF RET.) of Albany, GA, passed away June 5, 2012 at Phoebe Worth Medical Center after a brief illness.
He was born July 29, 1910 to Henry and Katherine Rosenbaum. His father was a rancher and miner in the Gunnison Valley, near Iola, Colorado. At the age of 12, after the death of his father, he went to work tending cattle on area ranches. At age 17 he joined the Army Corps of Engineers to survey and map the Western States. He joined the Army Air Corps in 1940 and served 26 years in the Air Force. He was a veteran of World War II and served in Guam during the Vietnam War. He also served ten years with the US Air Force Missions to El Salvador, Guatemala, and Caracas, Venezuela. He returned to Turner Air Force Base to retire in 1966.
He embraced his new hometown and lived and worked in Albany operating Donahoue's Gulf and later Donahoue's Heating and Air Conditioning from which he retired at the age of 100 in 2010. Mr. D as he was affectionately known by his friends was a kind and generous man. He loved his family, friends and country. He was hard working, enjoyed humorous situations and loved to read.
His survivors include his son, Arthur Michael Donahoue; wife, Carmita of the Republic of Panama; daughters, Patricia Donahoue-Knapp of Albany, and Sandra Elaine McDonald of Worth County; twelve grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren; his former wife, Helen Donahoue, who remained a friend and neighbor; and his youngest sister (100 years old) of Gunnison, CO.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rita Jane Jensen; brothers, Rex, Carl, and Lloyd Rosenbaum; and sisters, Monica Phillips and Pearl Hildreth.
Mr. Donahoue requested that his earthly remains be donated to the Emory School of Medicine in Atlanta, GA.
A celebration of life will be held at Norms Benchwarmer Bar at 2422 Sylvester Rd. in Albany on Saturday, June 9, 2012 from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., an event he would have enjoyed himself.
