ALBANY -- The Doughtery County School System Finance Committee this morning approved a tentative $116 million budget for FY2013. The tentative budget will go before the full board on Monday.
Among the cost-cutting measures proposed by Superintendent Joshua Murfree is a proposal to cut 15 paraprofessional positions, plans to enforce minimum class size requirements at every school which could lead to cuts to 26 teaching positions, eliminating vacant counselor and police officer positions within the system and to offer six furlough days for staff.

And, what is the administration having to give up? I wish they would publish a list of what EVERYONE employed by the DCSS has to give up (departments). We will probably find that the teachers are the only ones who are losing!!!

Administration is giving up NOTHING and the teachers are not the only ones losing out in the deal, the kids are too. Being stuffed into classrooms that have too many kids and having overworked teachers who have NO ONE trustworthy to turn to. Always has been that way, always will be because they don't care.

That's what people want, larger class sizes means trouble.

Everyone except the teachers should be getting deep cuts.

To late now, you convicted teachers before they had due process. You're getting what you have been screeming about.

The large number of Administrators in the Educational System were origionally justified by claims of expanded paperwork requirements from State and Federal Agencies. This paperwork was then filtered down to the Teacher level so the Administrator could Administrate. Then along came the computers, further cutting into the supposed work load of these Administrators. Now it seems the Administrator is no longer needed, but the ones currently employed, and those seeking these positions, spend all their time telling the Taxpayers how much they are needed. How Mrs. Bidler managed to run the one room School House in Jefferson Township in Pennsylavania without all these Administrators will forever remain a mystery to me. By the way, several PH'ds and Medical Doctors came out of that little School.

The DCSS relies on teachers for results, yet has this "you're lucky to have a job" mentality towards its workforce. Everyone in Albany should be extremely concerned about the future. The good teachers are leaving in droves...and who could blame them?

The people with integrity were let go.

Please in what dictionary are you finding a definition for your kind of integrity? Every dictionary I have looked at say a person who lies, cheats and steals is one without integrity.

The $90,000 is Baker, the principal, I don't think she was offered a new contract. Riggins is the one on the board........not sure what she is making now since The Girls Scouts let her go.

I dont think it's none of your business what she is making. What are you making?
Abytaxpayer 11 months, 3 weeks ago
There you go running your mouth about what you think, without knowing any facts. What we are MAKING is the money that pays her salary so we should know what we are forced to pay.

There was a high paid cop at the DCSS lobby today maning comings and goings. A low paid minimum job could do this job watching over the signing in and out. Maybe because of the meeting today.

Many vacant teaching positions are not being replaced, yet we are still not seeing any cuts in Administration. Two vacant Administrative positions were posted today: Executive Director of Finance (there is already a Director of Finance and other staff in the Finance Dept) and Assistant Superintendant for Curriculum and Instruction. Surely there are administrators already employed that can assume the duties for these positions…I doubt they do that much.

Do the math, keep fighting to get rid of qualified teachers. mrkia.
Abytaxpayer 11 months, 3 weeks ago
We don’t want to lose any qualified teachers. WE do however want to get rid of the lying, cheating, stealing people who teach the same kind of morals and integrity that are pulling down our society and our children. Low standards you are so happy to defend.

I'm glad the voters doesn't read the negative comments. Most of the commenters have a hidden agenda. Keep typing, maybe someone will listen.

Keep giving and we will keep spending. Figure this puzzel out, can you chimp lovers do that? Being played like a drum, controlling people behaviors.
