Master Sgt. Mary (McClendon) Torrence, an Early County resident, is retiring from the U.S. Air Force after serving 20 years. She is the granddaughter of Marion McClendon and the daughter of Sally Tinson and the late Wallace King. She graduated from Early County High in Blakely in 1983. Torrence’s retirement ceremony will be Friday at Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif.
Navy Seaman Recruit Deprise C. Williams, a 2010 graduate of Fitzgerald High School, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.
These Southwest Georgians recently completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.:
Pvt. Kalexis D. Williams, son of Jackie Ivory of Oglethorpe and Alex Hinton of Americus;
Pvt. Eric M. Palmer, son of John M. Palmer and stepson of Rhonda Palmer of Albany, and son of Tanya A. Dale and stepson of Joe Dale of Albany;
Pfc. Jeremy D. Jackson, son of Tammy M. Jackson of Camilla.
Marine Pfc. Christopher G. Spivey Jr., son of Sharon E. Allen of Albany and Christopher G. Spivey Sr. of Cordele, recently graduated from the Marine Aviation Operations Specialist Course.
During the course with Marine Aviation Training Support Squadron One, Marine Aviation Support Training Support Group 21, Meridian, Miss., students are taught military correspondence, airfield operations, tactical squadron flight records and reports preparation, and Marine aviation wing and group headquarters command tasks.
Spivey is a 2011 graduate of Dougherty Comprehensive High School of Albany and joined the Marine Corps in September.
Bailey D. Wilder, daughter of Wanda R. Wilder of Summerville, S.C., and Alvin V. Wilder of Albany, recently enlisted in the Navy under the Delayed Entry Program at Navy Recruiting District, Raleigh, N.C.
The program allows recruits to enter the Navy and take up to one year to complete commitments such as high school.
Wilder will report for active duty to undergo basic training at the Navy’s Recruit Training Center, Great Lakes, Ill. She is a 2011 graduate of Ashley Ridge High School of Summerville, S.C.
