ALBANY -- A 49-year-old man is dead and his passenger seriously injured following an auto crash Monday morning, Dougherty County police officials say.
Lt. A.G. Rogers with the Dougherty County Police Department said the two were traveling west on Hardup Road at approximately 6:40 a.m. in a 1998 Cadillac Eldorado near where the road intersects with Newton Road.
The driver attempted to negotiate a curve and the vehicle went 156 feet before running off the road and striking a tree, Rogers said.
The driver, Alexander Petkus, 49, died from injuries he sustained in the crash. The passenger, Michael Yager, 48, was seriously injured and taken to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital for treatment, Rogers said.
Rogers said it was possible that alcohol was involved, and that the driver may not have been wearing his seat belt.
There were no other vehicles involved in the wreck, which remains under investigation.
