ALBANY, Ga. — A brimming Georgia Lottery prize has brewed for an Albany office pool. Eleven co-workers in the tech service department at the MillerCoors Brewery collectively won a $1 million prize by matching the first five winning numbers from the June 9 Powerball drawing.
The prize was split among the 11 winners Wednesday at the Georgia Lottery District Office in Tifton.
“We’ve been playing for about five months,” office pool member Claude Strickland said on behalf of the group. “Every time the jackpot gets up to $80 million we get our pool going.”
Winning numbers from the June 9 Powerball drawing were: 18-22-45-56-57 and the Powerball was 27.
Strickland purchased the Quik Pik ticket at Thrift Food Mart, 2401 N. Briarwood in Albany.
Winners of the office pool are Clarence McNeal Jr. and Allen Chester Jr. of Dawson; Clarence Brown, Warren Lyles, Claude Strickland, Larry Gooden and Donald Talley of Albany; William Walker, Timothy Stafford, Dennis Starcher and Ernest Speir of Leesburg.
“We’ve always talked about winning,” Strickland explained. “It feels good. It made us holler, ‘Whoopee!’”
According to Strickland, several in the pool intend to save their winnings, pay off bills and vacation this summer.
