Local author Manswell Peterson will be signing copies of his new book, “Tracks of My Tears,” at Elements Coffee on Ledo Road on June 30.

ALBANY, Ga. -- Darton College Criminal Justice professor and program coordinator Manswell Peterson is no stranger to the literary world. His recently released book "Tracks of My Tears" is Peterson's sixth published work.

It's the response to the new book that's caught Peterson off guard.

Released last week via Kindle, "Tracks of My Tears" was ranked by amazon.com among the hottest new releases in the country and tracked No. 1 in the "family relationships" subgenre.

"Shocking. That's the best way I can describe what's happening with the new book," Peterson said last week. "Getting that kind of attention right after the book dropped is just unbelievable. I've had other authors congratulate me and say, 'You just don't understand what you've done.'

"It's humbling."

"Tracks of My Tears" was a difficult book for the author to complete because it hit so close to home. I've had parents contact me and tell me they're making their teenagers read my book," Peterson said. "It's, essentially, about my life, but I did not sugarcoat it. It's very gritty, very real.

"I wanted to communicate to readers that your future does not have to be determined by your past or present circumstances."

While "Tracks of My Tears" is currently available via Kindle or other similar devices, it will be available in printed form on June 30. On that day, Peterson will hold a book-signing from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Elements Coffee, located at 2726 Ledo Road.

"We expect another boost in sales over this weekend, and when the print version of the book is released, I've been told that it will still be in Amazon's Top 25, based on what it's done on Kindle," Peterson said. "But I wanted to make sure the people in Albany and Southwest Georgia had the first opportunity to get a physical copy of the book.

"I've already done an interview with a radio station in Texas, and I'm starting to get other requests as the book's circulation increases. It's just going way greater than I ever expected."

Readers are urged to pre-order copies of "Tracks of My Tears" so that they're guaranteed one for the book signing. Information is available by emailing Peterson at manswellpyahoo.com.
