SBDC plans franchise workshop

ALBANY -- A free workshop entitled "5 Proven Steps to Choosing a Winning Franchise" will be held Thursday from 10 a.m.-noon at the Riverfront Resource Center in the Candy Room at 125 Pine Ave.

The workshop is co-sponsored by the University of Georgia Small Business Development Center and FranNet, an independent firm specializing in franchise selection assistance.

According to the SBDC, franchise ownership can be lucrative and personally fulfilling only if franchise and owner are a proper fit. The workshop is designed to provide practical information through FranNet's time-tested and proven process.

The workshop will be presented by Cathy Petkash, who came to FranNet 18 years ago from Hewlett-Packard. In her position at FranNet, Petkash regularly meets with aspiring entrepreneurs to develop their businesses as well as their financial and personal plans for business ownership, workshop planners said.

The greatest and most immediate benefit to workshop attendees will be to those who have access to a minimum of $50,000 franchise investment capital and are seeking to acquire a business within the next six months, according to workshop officials.

To attend the free workshop, go to www.georgiasbdc.org or call Kathy Tedrick at (229) 420-1144.
