Violence at apartment A spewed out into the yard as a 31-year-old man opened fire with a handgun on a 16-year-old girl said to be his girlfriend. The shooting erupted at 709 Corn Avenue behind the bushes to the left of the orange residence.
ALBANY, Ga. — Two teenage girls were uninjured after a 31-year-old man fired at least one shot at them at his 709 Corn Ave. apartment Thursday, according to an Albany Police Department report.
According to the report, Frederick Anderson surrendered to police at about 4:30 p.m. He is charged with aggravated assault against 16-year-old Kyianna and 14-year-old Thameaski Williams.
As is typical, Anderson was booked into Dougherty County Jail and will have a first appearance before a judge today, said a jail spokeswoman.
"They were arguing inside (apartment A)," said police Capt. Mack Green at the scene. "They ended up arguing outside. We don't have the gun. We are waiting for a search warrant to search the apartment."
Thinking Anderson remained in the apartment, police called SWAT to the scene. With a further check, police knew he had run away.
Officers issued a lookout for Anderson in his gray Pontiac Grand Am. Abandoned by Anderson about 5 miles away, the car was found by Dougherty County Police Department officers using GPS at an Albany Express convenience store on Newton Road at Lily Pond Road south of Corn Avenue.
The neighborhood around Anderson's apartment turned out to watch the police in action. Tevika Hawkins, who lives across the street catercorner from Anderson's apartment, said all the action was strange to the block.
"We don't see much happen around here. I have a lot of older neighbors," Hawkins said. "It was strange to look out and see all the police with guns. One told me 'You better go back in for your safety.'"
