ALBANY -- Donald R. Zirkelbach, 76, of Albany, GA, died Sunday, June 24, 2012 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Military honors will be held Thursday, June 29, 2012 at 12:00 p.m. at Andersonville National Cemetery. Mr. Marvin Mixon will officiate.
Mr. Zirkelbach was born in Shawnee town, IL and was a native of Evansville, IN. Don and his family has resided in Albany, GA for the past 46 yrs. He was a devoted Catholic, graduated from Mater Dei Catholic High School, and continued his education through many college courses. He was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church. Don served twenty-three years in the US Marine Corp retiring as a Master Gunnery Sergeant. He continued on with the Civil Service as supervisor over the Census Bureau of SW Georgia in 1980. Don was a lifetime member, past post commander and quarter master of the VFW Post #2785 where he dedicated himself to his fellow veterans and troops. Don was also a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus, Shriners, and Loyal Order of the Moose. Don was religious about donating to charities, especially in his community. Don was a very unique man and will be greatly missed not only by his family but also his community and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard F. Zirkelbach and Clydia Walters Zirkelbach, his first wife, Sylvia Dean Zirkelbach, a son, John Zirkelbach, a daughter, Rebecca Zirkelbach and a sister, Diane Moore.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Hagan Zirkelbach, Albany, GA, a daughter and her husband, Ellen Giles and Mike, Woodstock, GA, a daughter-in-law, Becky Zirkelbach, Euharlee, GA, a sister and her husband, Vickie L. Sartain and Ike, Leesburg, GA, six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

My sincere sympathy and prayers are with the family at this most difficult time. I worked with "Zeke" when he was assigned to Quality Control Branch, Repair Division, Marine Corps Logistics Base, Albany, Georgia. He was an outstanding Marine and a fine person and friend.
