SUMTER, SC -- Marian Hoover Bjerken, age 79, died June 23, 2012 at her residence in Sumter.

Marian was born in Edison, GA. She was the daughter of Nellie Sanders Hoover and Hoyte Hoover of Edison, GA. She graduated from Edison High School and later graduated from the University of Georgia with a B.A. in Home Economics, from Vanderbilt University with a master's degree in Library Science and Middle Tennessee University with a master's degree in Education. She worked as a librarian for eighteen years before retiring in 1995. She was an artist who worked in many mediums throughout her life and studied art in Germany for four of those years.

Surviving Marian are her three daughters, Katherine Barrett and her husband Samuel James Barrett and son Edel Barrett of Sumter, SC; Janet Morlan and her husband Richard Morlan, Janet's son Samuel Hawthorne, his wife Deanna Hawthorne, three sons, Nathaniel, Coleman, and Samuel of Sumter, SC; Janet's daughter and her husband BriAnne and Michael Bell and their son Jude Bell of Myrtle Beach, SC; and Rebecca Brown of Sumter, SC and her son Matthew Brown and his son Rowland Brown of Anderson, SC. Also surviving is one sister, Martha Annette Dozier of Edison, GA, and her four children, Gary Dozier of Australia, Dave Dozier, Diana Collins, and Darryl Dozier all of Edison GA. Also, cousins Aldine Owens, Andy Owens, and Anne Jean Broun all of Edison GA, Lamar Sanders of Lexington, SC, and Hoyte Barrett of Murfreesboro, TN.

In addition to her parents, Marian is preceded in death by her grandson, Nathaniel Lennart Hawthorne.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 1, 2012 from 2-4pm at Bullock Funeral Home.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at 5pm in the Mars Hill Cemetery, Edison, GA.
