DARTON GOLFERS, COACH TO PLAY IN PRESTIGOUS GEORGIA AMATEUR:

ALBANY --- Darton State College head coach Bill Jones III has a lot to look forward to.

He and five other golfers – all connected to the Darton golf program – are among the 144 top Georgia amateurs who qualified for the Georgia State Amateur Championship in Roswell beginning July 12.

Recent Darton graduate Austin McNeill, sophomores Chase Jones and Robert Robertson, and incoming freshmen Von Stripling and Tyler Vaughn recently qualified at various golf courses in Georgia for entry into the field. Another incoming freshmen, Madison Turner, missed out on qualifying in a playoff after shooting 1-over par in Atlanta last week.

"I'm so excited for the State Amateur Championship this year, not just because I'm participating but mainly for another confirmation of our program's success,” Jones said. “Not only do we have current and former players in the field, two of our incoming freshmen are playing and another barely missed out.”

Jones will also represent Darton State College as he was exempt from qualifying based on his top-15 finish (tied-7th) at the 2011 State Amateur Championship.

“I'm looking forward to a great tournament and couldn't be happier for our team to show such promise for next season already," Jones said.

The tournament is scheduled to run July 12 -15 at Ansley Golf Club-Settindown Creek.
