Albany endures violent night

ALBANY — According to Albany Police Department reports, fleeing from his attackers did not pay off for a 14-year-old Albanian at approximately 11 p.m. Thursday.

Two gunmen began firing on Delvvechio Deshawn Warren, Jr. and his two female friends while they ran from the assault on Elm Street at Whitney Avenue.

Warren received a gunshot wound to his right leg. The case is under investigation.

In another reported violent encounter at about 12:32 a.m. Friday, Malcom Davis, 23, was arrested for severely beating Cornelius Evans, 20, at the 261 E. Oglethorpe Blvd. Woodall’s parking lot.

“Mr. Evans was found lying on his back, unconscious, and unresponsive. Several witnesses reported that Mr. Evans had been attacked in the Woodall’s parking lot by four or five unknown black males,” said Phyllis Banks, police spokeswoman. “They advised that he was knocked to the pavement, and hit and stomped repeatedly by the suspects. EMS responded to the scene and provided Mr. Evans with medical assistance then transported him to Phoebe Putney Hospital Emergency Center for additional medical treatment.”

No information on Evans condition was immediately available.

WHY are people out roaming around this late at night? Especially a group of 14-year-olds! I'm sorry, but these people got what they asked for. Yes, I know they all have the RIGHT to be out (I don't know, though -- curfew??) but people also need to use common sense.

These areas are where police need to be in force, rather than sitting around trying to catch people rolling through stop signs. Just sayin'.

A 14 year old out at 11pm shows that parents are not involved in this child's life at all. This is part of the reason America's youth has no respect for anyone. Parents let their children run the house. The kids today make their own rules and do whatever they want.

These action are also probably gang activity.....and this is the "Good Life City" ? What a joke. No wonder so many people leave and move to : Lee county or south Ga entirely. When the people who pay a large portion of city taxes leave so goes the cities money for the budget. This has been the case since the 80s in this town.

The mothers are out partying and don't know or care whether their kids are home or not.

It appears as if Mr Evans may have been undergoing the latest in gang-induction rituals. If any of these Albany wanne-be thugs ever met a real thug, they would need a pooper-scooper.

Yes indeed. Albany citizens should be glad you don't have real thugs. All of those leg shots would be head shots. You also don't have gangs there as well, Just wanna-be's that watch and listen to too much gangsta rap. When the local murder rate spikes like you've never seen or imagined, that's when the gangs have moved in.Those kids are bored cause there is nothing there to do.

Carefull Hawk59 Coach will get you…

Days ago I ask the thug want-a-be’s to practice so they could be proficient and show more "Due diligence" when they just have to shoot at each other. I mean if they just have to hide behind a gun at least learn how to use it. All I ask is if they MUST shoot please try to get it right with one shot which would greatly reduce the danger of stray bullets and harm to innocent people nearby.

BTW I have spent time in LA and Albany’s w-a-b thugs are like a kiddie pool compared to the soldiers in LA.

People need to be at home at this hour rather than out roaming the streets. Where are our parents with morals and those who care about their young people? There are so many out walking the streets and prowling around. There are not enough law enforcement to patrol every street in the city / county. Discipline and ethics should begin at home.

When you are reared by "parents" or people that have very little morals or none at all, one can anticipate things such as has been reported here to play out again and again. Just try to stay out of these degenerates way.

Why don't we ask the real question. What are those paid to assure the protection of the Citizens going to do about it? Will there be increased diligance in getting guns out of the hands of these folks. You notice I didn't say regulate guns. However there are Federal laws on the books that carry manditory sentences of five years on the Federal Governments dollar. They need to use their gun sniffing dog more out on the street. Do what Virginia did, make them realize it isn't worth the extra years to carry a gun. Train Officers on spotting weapons, and finding probable cause. Check the Georgia Codes. I believe it is against the law to have many of those tires and rims on vehicles if they extend beyond the fender well. You just need probable cause to stop them, and then the dog can get you a search warrent. That is the way it has been done in the past, and I don't remember many cases being lost. Even if there isn't jail time due to overcrowding, at least that gun is off the street.

Obbuma & his AG gave guns to the Mexican drug cartell which killed a border patrol agent. Maybe their handing them out in Albany to it wouldn't suprize me.
