METTER -- Lonnie A. Holloway, 92, formerly of Albany, died Wednesday, February 29, 2012, at Ogeechee Area Hospice. The Candler County native graduated from Georgia Teachers College and received a Masters Degree from University of Missouri. Mr. Holloway taught 32 years in several Albany schools before retiring as principal of Merry Acres Junior High School. In 1974, Lonnie and his wife returned to his family home near Metter. He was a Deacon and member of the Metter First Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School. His wife, Alef, preceded him in death in 1988.
Survivors are a son, Rev. L. Stephen (Karen) Holloway of Calhoun; two daughters, Debbie (Charles) Collum of Metter and Linda (Gary) Starr of Albany; three sisters, eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, 11:00 AM, at the Metter First Baptist Church with burial in the Rosemary Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to Metter First Baptist Church, POB 34, Metter, GA 30439 or Ogeechee Area Hospice, POB 531, Statesboro, GA 30459.
