It is not right. Dr. Murfree should have to receive pay cuts just like everyone else. I thought furlough days are all about budget cuts and saving money. I can't see cutting in one area and not in others. He has not done anything that warrants a huge pay raise.
If he had one ounce of integrity in him, he wouldn't accept the raise. I also want DCSS to come clean about the TRUE amount of his salary, always advertised to WE TAXPAYERS -- who are his employers and who PAY his salary -- as $140,000, but is actually $158,000+.
Integrity? Ha.....He wouldn't know anything about integrity. If he did, he wouldn't have accepted the job in the first place. He was already way overpaid. I still say the teachers should strike. It's not fair they get furloughed, yet he gets a big raise.
Now his salary is $165,000.00. Costs a lot to oversee a den of thieves, doesn't it? He is not worth it--that should go to the lowest employees on the ladder--you know, those who actually WORK!!
I believe the Administrators are paid year round, while the Teacher pay is ten months spread over twelve. So if the Teachers are getting ten furlough days, then the Administrators should be getting twelve furlough days. For this is a system wide crisis, not just a Teacher crisis. Amazing the decisions made by folks that are in charge, especially when it comes to cutting someone's pay. I have never noticed any Administrator cut their own pay, furlough themselves, or remove their job with a reduction in force. What is good for the Goose, should certainly be equally good for the Gander. Unless you have friends or relatives on the School Board that is. The old answer that if we cut their pay, they will go to another system doesn't fly, because once an interviewer realizes what system the come from, they won't want them.
Okay Walt, I have to disagree with the 12 days. I know someone who works a yearly job with the system. This person has not received a raise in three years, where teachers get their step and cost of living raise every year cause the state mandates it. This person's check and pay has gone down each of the three years because of raising insurance costs. This person also works 6:30 to 4:30 almost every work day and is so busy it is almost impossible to take vacation days and loses over a week in vacation every year... so where the system wastes money... this person gives a lot up because this person is thankful for the job in this crappy economy.
I believe the Teachers have said they haven't gotten a raise in five years, if my memory serves me correctly. Plus there are many Teachers going far beyond their supposed work schedule to prep for classes and grade papers. Just where do you see the differance between them? Wouldn't they also be subject to the same health insurance increases? As to vacation, Teachers don't have any. Remember they are paid for ten months, spread over twelve. Many work or further their education over the so called Summer break. There are hard times all around, even for the good folks.
Don't care what they said, they got raises... at least 3 1/2% each year... but I do stand corrected... after checking, the 12 month employees got a 1/4% raise each of the past two years... a quarter percent! I guess the rising insurance rates erased that. I assumed they didnt get one since the paycheck goes down.
what teacher got a 3 1/2% raise? They've done away with cost of living raises. in years 0, 1, and 2 of teaching, there's no step increase. after that they get a step increase until they hit year #10. Then they get a step increase every OTHER year. Once they pass year #19, there are NO MORE RAISES (unless they get an advanced degree).
I guess you r married to a new teacher... in Lee Co. hopefully, who would want to teach in Dougherty... I was told that Lloyd combined the step and the cost of living into the 3 1/2% increase and that the other employees received a 1/4% raise.
nope, just got out of doco schools at the right time. i didn't see a c.o.l increase in the last 4 years. the steps are from the state (so are c.o.l. but the state doesn't have to give you one of those). lloyd can't do squat with the state pay. the only thing he can do is be a rude jerk and get into fights with RD harter!
I liked ur comment... Okay... I see now that the furlough days have killed any raise that the teachers may have gotten via a co-worker. But I still don't think it is fair to furlough the hardworking, non-administrative, non-downtown, 12 month salaried workers for 12 days.

The person you speak of is foolish to let the system take a week of vacation.
There is a big difference between being thankful and not minding your pennies which add up to dollars.................
It was over a week's worth of days... 7 one year and 9 the year before, but this year things are back to normal in this department, so this person is taking vacation days. It was beyond this person's control the past couple of years. You would have to know the circumstances to understand.
It's not foolish to be dedicated to doing a good job for the citizens of Dougherty County.

Most teachers can't afford to strike - they are up to their necks in financial obligations, such as the expensive SUVs, cellphone time, expensive coifs, manicures, etc.
Atina.....I like how you think all teachers are "rich". I hope that you were being sarcastic, if not you are a fool. You shouldn't bunch all teachers with the ones from the DCSS. Not all teachers are liars and cheats. I happen to know my spouse works about 12 to 14 hours a day and crys because of these kids (most of which doesn't have a great home life and others that think that parents do no wrong). So unless she is hiding something, which I know she isn't, we are not rich by any means! Also, for you all that think that teachers have it so great.......change your professions so you can help mold and change these little angels lives!
It is a sad day for teachers in DCSS. They take flack from the community, their bosses, the media, And the government. Then they have to teach and put up with all those folks ill mannered children and to top it off get 10 days pay taken from them. It's no win situation for teachers.
But if you are looking for sympathy from these psychos on this web-site, you are mistaken.....they want blood....they dont care how under-paid teachers are or the fact that you are disrespected on all levels.....these psychos want you to be even more broke, more disrespected, and more unappreciated. Then they want you fired....even if you didn't cheat......they hate Murfree soo much until they forget about the people on the front-line teaching their babies everyday........
I am still trying to figure out how he got the job in the first place. Oh, wait, I know how he got the job...I know what brown nosing means and know that it is a matter of depth perception, and how brown the tip of one's nose is and how far one will stick their nose for the correct browness. Of course who one knows and who one is kin to and in business with is quite important too. It doesn't seem to matter anymore that the children should be the #1 priority, does it? Oh my gosh, did someone say children? You mean there are children involved....you mean he is supposed to be working for the good of the children? Well call me a biscuit and slap some butter on me...!!! I am appalled (His friend's word)!! I am sorry but everytime I think of him in that position I just get angry and sick to my stomach.
Since he earned (I use the term loosely) the increase in pay by becoming fully certified, is this not funded by the state? It would be a $7,000 increase to his salary before furlough days....just like Shinedown claiming teachers have received a raise in pay - maybe before furloughs, but no teacher earns more this year than four years ago....which is why anyone with 30 years would be crazy to continue teaching - retire and earn only slightly less.
The DCS Board's choice of Murfree was an outrage. His performance as Superintendent has been an embarrassment. If anyone needs to be furloughed - it is the School Board and the Superintendent. The more days; the better.

How many of you read this article and attempted this test..and you actually think Murfree could pass it..hahhhaaha.....NOT!!
Now seriously...do you honestly think he can pass this test? And do you think his cronies can pass even a fourth of the test?

ALL THE TEACHERS HAVE TO DO IS GO TO ASU GET THEIR "DOCTORATE" AND PRESTO INSTANT RAISE. JUST LIKE #34.
