TIFTON, Ga. -- A 23-year-old man turned himself in Tuesday in connection with the fatal Monday shooting of 18-year-old Devin Pickett at a Chevron gas station and convenience store located at 3121 Central Ave. here.
Ernest Jackson Jr., 23, aka "Luvv," turned himself in to deputies at the Tift County Sheriff's Office "after warrants had been issued for his arrest in the shooting death last night of Devin Picket," said David Haire, spokesman for the Tift County Sheriff's Office.
According to Georgia Bureau of Investigation and deputy reports, before 6:40 p.m. Monday gunfire broke out in front of the gas station. Multiple bullets flew, hitting the rear door of an SUV and Pickett.
Pickett was driven to Tift Regional Medical Center, where he died. No information on who drove Pickett to the medical center was immediately available.
The gas station sits next to a small strip mall with a Chinese restaurant, Haire said. GBI agents and deputies stayed through the night gathering information to fill out warrants for Jackson.
The case remains under investigation, and anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Tift County Sheriff's Office at (229) 388-6020 or the Sylvester GBI office at (229) 777-2080.
