PREP BASEBALL ROUNDUP: Westwood gets first win of season

PINEHURST — Westwood pitcher Caleb Morrell struck out 12 in five innings of work, and the Wildcats won their first game of the year with a 8-1 victory at Fullington Academy.

Mason Worsham, Mitch Good and Kaleb Bentley all had two hits for the Wildcats, who improved to 1-1.

Westwood will play again Friday in its home opener against Grace Christian.

CHILES 8, LEE COUNTY 6: The Trojans lost their second game of the season Monday in their final outing before beginning region play.

Lee County pitcher Ty McAllister threw three innings and took the loss.

At the plate for the Trojans, Mark Fowler was 2-for-3, McAllister was 1-for-3 with an RBI and Dalton Daniel was 1-for-3 with two runs.

The Trojans (4-2) play again at home Friday against Region 1-AAAA foe Hardaway.

TATTNALL SQUARE 7, DEERFIELD 1: The Knights committed three errors, walked eight batters and lost their season opener Monday.

Harris Webb (2-for-3, home run) had two of Deerfield’s three hits in the game. Losing pitcher Coleman Butler was one of several players to toe the rubber for the Knights, who play again today at home against Terrell Academy.
