ALBANY — An Albany Internet service provider and call center is expanding its operations and creating 200 jobs, the company said Friday.
According to a news release, Teleperformance, a global provider of outsourced contact center services managing customer care and technical support programs, has begun accepting applications to fill the 200 sales and customer service representative positions at its Albany center.
Training classes have already started and will continue through the end of August.
“We’re thrilled that Teleperformance will create 200 new jobs as it takes advantage of Albany-Dougherty County’s available work force and its telecommunications infrastructure, which makes it an ideal location for sales and customer service operations,” Ted Clem, president of the Albany-Dougherty Economic Development Commission, said.
The EDC worked with Teleperformance in obtaining training and assistance with partners including Albany Technical College, Georgia Quick Start and the Georgia Department of Labor, Clem said.

The news comes on the heels of word from Washington that the economy added 227,000 new jobs in February, one of the strongest monthly surges since the start of the recession.
Locally, according to the Georgia Department of Labor, the five-county metro Albany area lost 1,700 jobs from January 2011 to January 2012. New unemployment claims for that same period year-to-year, however, have dropped 13.7 percent from 1,369 in January 2011 to 1,182.
