DWS soccer climbs Mount de Sales
MACON — Aly Joslin cried.
Honest, real tears, real joy and more.
That’s what the Deerfield-Windsor coach and his players felt on Friday when they pulled off the biggest win since Joslin took over the soccer program at DWS three years ago.
Simply put: Deerfield climbed Mount de Sales on Friday.
And that doesn’t even explain how sweet it felt when Collin Dennis’ header off a corner kick ripped its way into the back of the net with 17 seconds left to lift DWS to a 2-1 victory against the defending state champs in the first round of the Stratford Cup.
“It’s the first time I’ve ever cried after a game,’’ Joslin said. “We had never beaten them. It was absolutely incredible — absolutely incredible! The first year I was here they beat us 8-1, and then last year they beat us 7-0 and 6-0. We could never get close to them. and we beat them.’’
Jonathan Jones scored DWS’ first goal, and then Dennis won it in the final seconds. DWS is 4-0 and plays Crown Athletics out of Atlanta today in the Stratford Cup.
The DWS girls lost to Mount de Sales, 2-1. Casey Kincheloe scored the goal for the Lady Knights (2-1).
