DOTHAN, Ala. — Bombs away!
That’s what happened Saturday when Darton’s Lady Cavaliers softball team hit Wallace Dothan.
They hit Wallace again and again.
By the time the doubleheader was over, Darton had another sweep after belting nine home runs. Darton won the opener 18-1 in five innings behind Katy Jordan, who struck out eight while giving up just two hits to improve to 13-1. The Lady Cavs won the nightcap, 14-8.
Darton, ranked 18th in the nation, is now 24-1.
Jessica Vason hit two homers in the opener and belted another homer in the second game, and went 6-for-9 for the day while driving in six runs.
Chantelle Curinton had three hits and drove in four runs in the opener, then had three more hits (she went 6-for-10 for the day), belted a homer and drove in three more runs.
Bryana Contreras went 4-for-9 in the double headers and hit a home run in each game, and Erica Vasquez hit a grand slam in the opener.
Jenny Willis picked up the win in the nightcap, striking out four in five innings before Jordan wrapped up the final two innings.
ASU SWEEPS FVSU: The Lady Rams stayed perfect in conference play with a pair of wins at home Saturday against Fort Valley State.
The Lady Rams won the opener, 6-0, and then turned around and won the second game, 8-7, to improve to 6-14 overall and 4-0 in conference play.
In the opener, Chelsea Hicks threw a complete game and got the win for the Lady Rams.
Adrienne Morris was 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Chaconna Marks was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Shaywona Marks got the win and led the way offensively in the second game. She threw six innings and struck out five Fort Valley batters, and went 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI.
DWS BASEBALL: Deerfield-Windsor’s offense exploded in the fourth and sixth innings, and the Knights beat Brookwood on Saturday, 9-4.
The Knights (2-1) scored six in the bottom of the fourth and three in the bottom of the sixth to help starting pitcher Weston King get his first win of the season.
At the plate for DWS, Harris Webb was 3-for-4 with a double and Lindsey Short was 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and two RBI.
Deerfield plays again Tuesday at home against Southland in the Knights’ region opener.
DWS SOCCER: The Deerfield-Windsor boys soccer team lost to Crown Athletic, 1-0, and lost to Stratford, 3-0, in the Stratford Cup on Saturday while the DWS girls beat Crown, 1-0, and then tied Stratford, 1-1. Casey Kincheloe scored for DWS against Crown and her sister Haley scored the goal against Stratford. The Boys are now 4-2, and the girls are 3-1-1.
SCA BOYS WIN CRUSADER CLASSIC: The Sherwood’s boys soccer team defeated Robert Toombs, 7-0, and then downed Augusta Prep, 4-0, Saturday to win the Crusader Classic. T.J. Clay scored twice against Toombs and once against Augusta, and Aaron Anthony scored once against Toombs before pulling off the hat trick against Augusta with a three-goal game. William Orr and Seth King also scored goals for SCA, which is now 9-0-1. Vince Taylor had two shutouts in his first two games as SCA’s goalkeeper.
SCA’s girls beat Bulloch, 1-0, on Jordyn Taylor’s goal, but lost to Trinity Christian, 2-1, in the third-place game of the Crusader Classic. Paige Barker scored the goal against Trinity.
