CAMILLA — Caleb Morrell dominated on the mound, and the Westwood bats came alive to lead the Wildcats to a 17-0 win Tuesday against Georgia Christian Academy.
Morrell threw four innings, allowed one hit and struck out 12.
J.T. Edore led Westwood at the plate with three hits, while Mason Worsham, Mitch Good, Kaleb Bentley and Tyler Classon all had two hits apiece.
Westwood is now 4-1 and plays again Thursday at home against SGA.
TROJANS FALL TO 4-4: Lee County struck out 14 times and managed just four hits in a 4-3 loss to Northside, Warner Robins on Tuesday.
T.J. Roberts, who was the losing pitcher for the Trojans, threw four innings and gave up five hits and one earned run.
Daniel Nichols led Lee County at the plate with a pair of home runs. His first was a solo shot in the first inning, and then he followed that up with a two-run blast in the fifth inning.
The Trojans fell to 4-4 overall and 0-2 in Region 1-AAAA and will play again Friday at home against Northside, Columbus.
SOUTHLAND 5, DEERFIELD-WINDSOR 4: Southland’s Ryan Johnson picked up the win in the GISA Region 3-AAA opener. Deerfield (2-2) was led by Harris Webb, who went 2-for-4 with a single and a triple and drove in a run, and Lindsey Short, who went 2-for-3. Johnny Croley (1-1) took the loss. He went 3 1/3 innings and gave up five runs on four hits while striking out five. Only two of the runs were earned. Deerfield plays at Terrell Academy at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
MILLER COUNTY 6, WESTOVER 2: T.T. Barber singled and had a bases-loaded double to drive in three runs to lead the Class A Pirates against Class AAA Westover. Cain Givens went 2-for-3 and stole four bases for Miller, and Jackson Fleet doubled, drove in a run and stole home in the win. Michael Cowart went the distance and gave up two earned runs on five hits while striking out six for Miller, which is now 6-4 for the season.
BACONTON CHARTER 15, STEWART COUNTY 2: Brock Pinson went 4-for-5 and Zack Jones went 2-for-3, hit a homer and drove in three runs to lead Baconton (7-2). The Blazers play at Seminole County at 5 p.m. Thursday in a huge Region 1-A game.
SHERWOOD GIRLS SOCCER 7, SOUTHLAND 0: Paige Barker and Jordyn Paramore each scored the hat trick, knocking in three goals apiece, and Hannah King scored for SCA (9-2 and 2-0 in Region 3-AAA) on Tuesday as the Lady Eagles routed Southland. Sherwood faces Tiftarea on Friday in Tifton.
g DWS GOLF: DWS was led by John Leach, who was third overall with an 81 as the Knights finished second in a four-team golf match on Tuesday at the Springhill Country Club. Sherwood’s Tyler Hanson had the low round for the day, shooting a 76.
Tiftarea won the match with a 333. DWS was second at 343. Sherwood finished third (346) and Westfield was fourth (357).
DWS SOCCER: DWS swept Tiftarea Tuesday in two one-sided matches as the girls won, 7-0, and the boys romped, 11-0.
Casey Kincheloe scored four goals to run her season total to 10 goals in six games and Katie Williams posted her second shutout for the Lady Knights (4-1-1). Haley Kincheloe, Mackenzie Davis and Candace Cosby also scored for DWS.
Jonathan Jones led the boys with three goals, and Sriram Gadde scored twice. Harry Vidabill, John Scozzari, Taylor Grandinetti, Trey Puckett, Lanier Freeman and James LaRussa also scored for DWS (5-2). DWS plays at Westfield on Thursday.
LEE SOCCER: Warner Robins scored the winning goal with less than a minute to play to beat Lee County’s girls team, 2-1, on Tuesday. Kristi Sheridan scored the goal for the Lady Trojans (4-2). Houston County beat Lee’s boys, 8-0. The Trojans are now 2-3 for the season. Lee County’s next home game is next Tuesday against sub-region rival Thomas County
DWS TENNIS: The Deerfield-Windsor boys and girls tennis teams swept Sherwood on Tuesday.
The DWS boys (7-0) beat a shorthanded Sherwood team, 2-0, and the Lady Knights (7-0) won, 3-0.
Nasser Rizvi won at No. 1 singles and Tyler Lowe and Chap Ivey won at No. 1 doubles for the Knights, while Lucy Kelley and Caroline Holley won at No. 1 doubles, Paige Hawke and Amy Rao won at No. 2 doubles and Caterina Mathes and Ansley Arrington won at No. 3 doubles for the DWS girls.
