ALBANY — The 2nd annual Albany Wing Fest will take place 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday at the Albany Exchange Club Fairgrounds, 810 S. Westover Blvd.
The Bo Henry Band will entertain guest from noon until 2 p.m. A chicken wing eating contest will begin at 2 p.m.; the deadline for entry will be 1 p.m. The first six entries will be chosen to participate in the competeition and the entry fee for those contestants will be $2 per person. The winner of the event will receive a trophy, festival t-shirt, gift certificates and bragging rights.
The festival is adding some activities for younger visitors, Rick Schneider, one of the organizers, said. “We are going to have a petting zoo and pony rides,” he said.
But music is the big draw and Highway 55 will continue entertaining guests during the afternoon and into the early evening. At 5 p.m., the Wing Competition will begin to decide which vendor has the best mild wings, hot wings and most creative wings in town and a People’s Choice Award will be given. Three local judges will participate in this event. Trophies and festival t-shirts will be awarded.
The evening will continue on with the Bid for Bachelors event beginning at 6 p.m., Sponsored by the Southwest Georgia Autism Resource Inc.
A concert by Relapse Band will run until 8:30 p.m. The night will come to a conclusion with a clucking contest that will feature four volunteers from the audience. Crowd applause will determine this winner. Trophies and T-shirts will be awarded.
This event is for everyone, adults and children.
