ALBANY, Ga. -- Mike Marz, president of SunTrust Bank in Albany, says Friday will be his final day as the chief executive of SunTrust's Albany operations.

Marz says he is retiring from the banking industry after 32 years as a banker, including 27 with SunTrust.

Marz says his initial plans are to "kick back for a while and do some fishing" but he does not plan to leave the working world.

"At some point, I will be looking for a job," Marz said. "Where that job search takes me will determine whether I leave Albany."

Marz has been active in civic and community affairs since his arrival a decade ago. He has been especially involved in the Boys and Girls Club, Albany Tomorrow Inc., United Way and the Albany Area Chamber of Commerce.

"It has been a good run," Marz said. "I have enjoyed the heck out of Albany. "The economy got a lot of us and the banking industry is not immune to that. We will recover as an industry and a community, but we have a long way to go.

"I've been involved in a lot of things that I think will help this community get back on our feet."

Marz said the SunTrust city CEO position will be filled by someone locally. He also served as the leader of SunTrust's group commercial division. That position will now be filled by someone outside of Albany, he said.
