ALBANY — The Deerfield tennis teams both improved to 8-0 on Thursday with a pair of sweeps of Mount de Sales.
Pete Langstaff (No. 2 singles), Will Calhoun (No. 3), Tyler Lowe (No. 4) and the doubles duos of Robert Newsome/Reid Wright (No. 1) and Ben Hoopes/Chap Ivey (No. 2) all won their matches in a 5-1 victory.
For the girls, it was a 6-0 rout as Joyner Tyson (No. 1 singles), Caroline Holley (No. 2), Ansley Arrington (No. 3), and the doubles duos of Lucy Kelley/Hope Kitchen and Amy Roa/Paige Hawke all cruised to wins.
DWS will next host Southland on Monday at Darton.
Baseball
CAMILLA — Westwood routed SGA on Thursday, 10-1, behind five strong innings from ace Douglas Nobles, who struck out eight and allowed just two hits.
Nobles and Caleb Morrell also added homers, while J.T. Edore (2-for-4) hit a bases-clearing triple in the first inning to get things going for the Wildcats (5-1).
Westwood will next play at Randolph Southern on Tuesday.
DEERFIELD 17, TERRELL ACADEMY 7: Austin Murphy picked up the win for the Knights, who improved to 3-2 on the season. Murphy pitched three innings, allowed one hit and struck out four.
Harris Webb was 3-for-5 with three RBI and Matthew Fox was 3-for-4 with two RBI.
Deerfield next plays Saturday at Stratford.
Golf
AMERICUS — Tyler Hanson won low medallist for Sherwood with a 75, while Tyler George was second with an 82 as the Eagles won the meet with a 337 team score.
Clay Oxford led Southland with an 88.
DWS soccer sweeps
ALBANY — Casey Kincheloe found the back of the net twice and Mattie Veilands scored her first career goal to lead the Deerfield-Windsor girls soccer team to a 5-1 win Thursday against Westfield.
Also scoring for the DWS girls (5-1-1, 2-0 GISA Region 3-AAA) were Candace Cosby and Bailey Weed.
Jonathan Jones scored twice, and the DWS boys beat Westfield, 3-1. Trey Puckett also scored for the Knights, who improved to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the region.
The Knights play again Tuesday at Brookwood, while the DWS girls play Saturday at home against Calvary Christian.
