SWAINSBORO — The Darton College baseball stayed red-hot Sunday, winning its ninth game in a row thanks to a 9-0 rout of East Georgia to conclude the series.
Darton improved to 21-7 overall and remained perfect in Region XVII at 8-0 and is now three games up on Middle Georgia and Georgia Perimeter, both of which are 5-3.
A.J. Sundstrom earned the win, pitching six innings, allowing just four hits and striking out two while walking no one. Ethan Glass then came in and pitched the seventh, which is where the game ended due to the threat of severe weather.
Bryant Alonso led the way at the plate with two hits and four RBI, while Kevin Manos added to his nation-leading RBI total (40) after two hits and two more RBI Sunday.
The Cavs return to the field Tuesday when they host West Georgia Tech.
GSW SOFTBALL'S LOSING STREAK CONTINUES:
YOUNG HARRIS — After dropping a pair of one-run games the day before at USC Aiken on Sunday, the Georgia Southwestern Lady Hurricanes were unable to bounce back, losing Sunday to Young Harris College, 3-2, in Game 1 and 4-3 in Game 2.
In the opener in the top of the seventh inning, former Lee County star Hayley Knight would single and Gabby Buck would follow it up with a walk. Rachel McElroy would come through for the Lady Hurricanes with the RBI single to push the GSW advantage to 2-0. But Young Harris scored three unanswered to close out the game.
In Game 2, the Lady Hurricanes would concede four first-inning runs to the Lady Mountain Lions to put them in the early hole they’d never climb out of.
The pair of losses on Sunday puts the Lady Hurricanes on an eight-game losing streak while pushing their record to 12-18 overall and 0-6 in the PBC. The never-ending road trip will come to an end Tuesday. The doubleheader at Anderson University will wrap up their road trip, which included five straight double headers away from Americus. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
