TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Fans will be “Puttin’ on the Ritz” at the Tallahassee-Leon County Civic Center Sunday for a one-time performance of the Mel Brooks musical “Young Frankenstein.”

Adapted for the stage from Brooks’s Oscar-nominated 1974 movie classic, “Young Frankenstein” hilariously tells the story of esteemed New York brain surgeon/professor Frederick Frankenstein after he inherits the Transylvania castle and laboratory of his grandfather, deranged genius Victor Von Frankenstein. There, he is enticed to stop running from his family’s past and carry on his grandfather’s reanimation experiments.

The ‘74 film classic earned Brooks and star/co-writer Gene Wilder Academy Award screenplay nominations, and the movie currently ranks 13th among the American Film Institute’s 100 funniest American movies of all time.

Stage adaptation of “Young Frankenstein” includes a book by three-time Tony Award winners Brooks and Thomas Meehan as well as music and lyrics by Brooks. The play is directed and choreographed by five-time Tony winner Susan Stroman (“The Producers”) with musical supervision by Glen Kelly.

Highlights of the show’s score include “The Transylvania Mania,” “He Vas My Boyfriend” and, of course, the unforgettable monster/Frankenstein duet of Irving Berlin’s “Puttin’ on the Ritz.”

The monster hit was named Best Broadway Musical upon its debut in 2008 by the Outer Critics Circle Award and claimed five Broadway.com audience awards.

Sunday’s performance of “Young Frankenstein’ has a 7:30 p.m. showtime. Tickets, which are priced from $39.25 to $78.25, are on sale at the Civic Center box office at 505 W. Pensacola St., at all Ticketmaster outlets or online at ticketmaster.com. Tickets may be ordered by phone at (850) 222-0400 or (800) 322-3602.

Group and student discounts are available at the Civic Center box office.
