COLUMBUS -- In addition to Albany, Waycross and Valdosta, there is a fourth Megan's House location now operating in Columbus.
The Columbus location, at 7763 Fortson Road, opened on March 16. The Albany Megan's House was the first to open in 2004, followed by Waycross in 2006 and Valdosta in 2011.
Megan's House is a respite home for children with disabilities, and is the legacy of Megan Hollomon, who died unexpectedly in 2003 at the age of 14. She had been diagnosed with Partial Trisomy 22 Chromosome Disorder shortly after birth, leaving her mentally and physically challenged.
The Columbus location will follow the same service delivery model as the Southern Georgia program. Megan's House offers extended care, from 24 hours to two weeks, for disabled children ages 2-17 to ease the hardship of everyday care when their families need a break.
