Darton's Katy Jordan picked up a win a save on the mound Thursday for the red-hot Lady Cavs, who have now won 24 games in a row.
ALBANY — The Darton College softball team won its 23rd and 24th games in a row Thursday after shutting out ABAC, 8-0 and 2-0, respectively, in the Lady Cavaliers’ Region XVII opener.
Now, if only the NJCAA coaches would simply open their eyes to what’s happening here in Albany.
Darton has the nation’s longest winning streak, but the team continues to be disrespected by the national Top 25 poll. The latest was released Wednesday and actually dropped the Lady Cavs from No. 16 to No. 17 — despite the fact they’re 30-1 overall and 2-0 in conference.
Katy Jordan (15-1) did her part to keep the streak alive Thursday, throwing her third no-hitter of the season by striking out 10 in the five-inning win in Game 1. Erica Vasquez led at the plate, going 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Katie Pulley was 1-for-3 with three RBI, thanks to her bases-clearing double in the fourth inning. Chelsea Showers finished 2-for-3.
In Game 2, Jenny Willis (14-0) picked up the win, striking out four in 6 2/3 innings, while Jordan got the last out and recorded the save by striking out the final ABAC batter with two on base in the seventh.
Jessica Vason (2-for-3, 3B, RBI), Kelsea Ogletree (2B) and Showers (1-for-3, run scored) led the way.
Darton returns to action today when it hosts Andrew College in a twin bill.
