Black college alumni lecture series to visit ASU

ALBANY, Ga. — A popular lecture series will make a swing through here for a discussion at Albany State University next month.

The 2012 Legacy Lectures Spring Tour, sponsored by the National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame Foundation Inc., begins April 2 at 6 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom located on the ASU campus.

A panel of six speakers recognized in business, entertainment and law will gather to speak on the topic “Strengthening HBCUs to Meet the Needs of the Future.”

Panelists for the series include:

• Attorney Albert Dotson Jr., the chairman of 100 Black Men of America Inc.
• Actor Emmanuel Lewis (star of the series “Webster”)
• William Pickard, CEO of Global Automotive Alliance
• Ashleigh Taylor, Miss National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame
• Judge Glenda Hatchett of the “Judge Hatchett” television show
• Jeff Johnson, a BET commentator and CNN correspondent.

The presentations are designed to position students for leadership roles through education and mentoring.

The lectures will focus on the development of character and leadership skills that empower and prepare young adults to compete in the global marketplace.

The tour is scheduled to visit nine colleges and universities from March 13 through April 19 and is open to the public.
