Lewis-Polite wins DCSS Teacher of the Year April 17, 2014

CORDELE -- Elizabeth Ann Adams, 81, entered into rest Wednesday, March 28, 2012 in Cordele. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 2, 2012 in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services. Interment will follow in Andersonville National Cemetery in Andersonville. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Born in Wilkinson County, Ann was the daughter of the late Joe Brown Green and Mattie Beall Green. She graduated from Toombsboro High School in 1948 where she excelled in girl's basketball, leading her team to the District Championship. She married 1st Lt. Henry L. Adams of Maintou, OK in 1953 and left her career as a telephone operator to become a devoted Army Officer's wife serving in various capacities of the Officer's Wives Auxiliary throughout numerous United States army installations as well as overseas in Otsu, Japan and Ankara, Turkey.

She was an avid bridge player for over 60 years playing with military friends along the way and with her beloved Cordele Bridge group. She was an active member of the Cordele First Presbyterian Church.

Ann was preceded in death by her siblings, Laura Rogers, Mary Bembry, Janice Forsythe and Robert Green. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Lt. Col. (RET) Henry L. Adams of Cordele; her daughter and her husband, Rebecca L. and Gary Dorough of Albany; nieces, Robyn Windham of Dublin, Belle Hicks of Odessa, TX; nephews, Mike Rogers of Pensacola, FL, Ronnie Rogers of Fernandina, FL, and Steven Rogers of Milledgeville; a brother-in-law, Lt. Col. (RET) David Forsythe of Odessa, TX; and numerous grand-nieces and nephews. The family may be contacted at Mrs. Adams' residence at 117 North Valhalla Lane, Cordele.
