CORDELE -- Funeral Services for K. D. Childers were held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at Antioch Baptist Church. Burial followed in Zion Hope Cemetery. Rev. J. E. Harris and Dr. John Smith officiated the services. Mr. Childers' son, Kim Childers, gave an eulogy. Jill Gibbs, pianist, played for the service and accompanied Ann Teague as she led the congregation in singing "Surely The Presence", "Blessed Assurance", "The Old Rugged Cross" and "When We All Get To Heaven."

Serving as pallbearers were Mr. Childers' grandsons: Landon Jackson Childers, Adam Childers, Benjamin Childers and Taylor Childers. Also serving as pallbearers were Mr. Childers' step-grandsons: Thomas Griffin, III and Michael Griffin.

A native of Arabi, Ga. Mr. Childers died on Monday, March 26, 2012 at Coliseum Medical Center in Macon, Ga. at the age of 84. He was the son of the late Henry Michael Childers and the late Elizabeth Amanda Posey Childers. He was a retired farmer. Mr. Childers was a member of Antioch Baptist Church where he served as treasurer for 30 yrs., and also served as a deacon for the church for over 50 yrs. A veteran of the United States Army, Mr. Childers was also a member of the Farm Bureau, Woodmen of The World and also a Mason.

He is survived by his wife: Sara Stephens Childers of Arabi, Ga.; daughter: Kristy Hiner of Conyers, Ga.; sons: Keith Haynes Childers of Cordele, Ga, Kim Michael Childers of Fort Valley, Ga., Kirby Lyndell Childers of Powhatan, Vir.; step-son: Thomas Otto Griffin of Ocilla, Ga.; sisters: Emmie Cox and Jean Ryals both of Cordele, Ga. and Audrey Brock of Arabi, Ga.; grandchildren: Lyndsey Amanda Childers, Landon Jackson Childers, Kari Hiner, Adam Childers, Benjamin Childers, Taylor Childers, Claire Childers, Nathan Childers, Kyle Childers; step-grandchildren: Thomas Griffin, III and Michael Griffin.
