SASSER — Lenny Cooper’s doing more than opening for Colt Ford on the country star’s Declaration of Independence Tour when it kicks off at the Sasser Flea Market Friday.
The man known as the “Original Mud Digger” will be looking for the biggest and baddest truck in Southwest Georgia.
Cooper, whose single “Mud Digger” was an Internet sensation that got him a contract with Ford’s Backroad Records, will host the first Rocky Ridge Big Bad Truck Contest at stops on the 20-city Declaration of Independence Tour. Between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. at each stop on the tour, Cooper will roam the venue parking lot with an Average Joes Entertainment camera crew looking for the biggest and baddest truck.
Winning truck owners will receive a VIP package that includes backstage passes and the best seats in the house for the concert. The winning truck will also be featured on Cooper’s website and social pages and will be in the running for a grand prize package valued at more than $1,000.
The Rocky Ridge High Liner grand prize package includes an Aero Skin four-piece set of Seamless Ventvisors, a front and rear set of floor liners, a set of side steps in chrome or black plus Rocky Ridge T-shirts.
Cooper, who signed with Average Joes Entertainment subsidiary Backroads Records after his YouTube video for “Mud Digger” went viral, recently released his debut album “Diesel Fuel.
Cooper will join JB & the Moonshine Band and south Georgia favorites Rehab on the Declaration of Independence bill that starts at 7:30 p.m. in Sasser.
“Our concert may be the first that a lot of kids get to go to,” Ford said of kicking off his tour in the small-town community. “In today’s economy, a lot of working families can’t afford to bring their kids to a show where tickets are so expensive. And they certainly can’t afford to buy a $40 T-shirt or an overpriced CD or hat.
“I wanted to find places like Sasser where working people will have an opportunity to take their families out and have a good time without going broke doing so.”
Rocky Ridge, the sponsor of the Big Bad Truck Contest, is a special vehicle manufacturer for General Motors that specializes in custom-order trucks. The family-owned company prides itself on having the best hydro graphics and state-of-the-art paint and interior department in the country.
