Lorie Farkas, assistant general manager of the Albany Water, Gas & Light Commission, has received the Southwest Georgia 2012 Martha Eaves Advocating for Positive Change Award. Farkas was cited for her work with the SOWEGA Council on Aging; she has written the agency’s annual holiday campaign letter for more than a decade. Farkus also was instrumental in beginning SOWEGA Council on Aging’s “Comedy Night,” which has become its signature fundraising event in Dougherty County. Her efforts have contributed to raising more than $158,000 for the Council on Aging.
