COVINGTON — Something is amiss with the Darton College baseball team — and the Cavs have a little more than a week to figure out what’s wrong.
Darton lost for the eighth time in its last 10 games Tuesday, this time falling hard to conference foe Georgia Perimeter, 13-3, in a contest that was called after seven innings.
The Cavs’ baseball program, which garnered its first national ranking in school history in late March when they broke into the Top 25 at No. 12, has struggled mightily since then. And with the Region XVII Tournament looming next weekend in Covington, Darton (35-17, 20-9) is barely clinging on to the No. 2 seed in conference with just three regular-season games left to play.
Part of Darton’s problem these days is the same thing that got the Cavs off to such a hot start to 2012: their pitching.
Former Lee County star Matt Aldrich, Darton’s ace, is winless in his last three starts, and the Cavs’ No. 2 hurler, Tyler Oglesby, got rocked again Tuesday in the team’s latest loss. Oglesby didn’t even make it out of the third inning before being pulled after he gave up four hits, three runs and walked two batters. GPC raced out to a big lead and never looked back.
The lone bright spots for the Cavs on Tuesday were their bats as Russell Melton went 2-for-4 with an RBI, Ryan Lemonds was a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs scored and Casey James went 2-for-3 and scored Darton’s only other run.
Darton has three games left before the tourney — all against Perimeter — starting Friday at home at 7 p.m. The two teams will then close out the series with a doubleheader Saturday.

Apparenly whoever wrote this article wasn't at game. Oglesby was pulled in the 3rd because of and injury.
