Carol Ford is the 2012 Lincoln Elementary Magnet teacher of the year.
ALBANY, Ga. — Carol Ford was surprised when she learned she was named Lincoln Elementary Magnet School’s 2012 teacher of the year.
“I’m elated that my colleagues think enough of me to recognize me as teacher of the year.” said Ford, a math teacher at the school for the past 12 years. “The first thing I thought of was thanking God, then I called my parents. I would not be here today if it weren’t for them.”
She is one of eight nominees for the Dougherty County School System’s 2012 teacher of the year, who will be named at a banquet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Live Oak Elementary school.
“When I come into the building and greet my children every morning, I know I am making a difference in their lives,” Ford said when asked what she enjoyed most about her job. “My colleagues and I help produce wonderful test scores because we have wonderful children. I feel like I am leaving a legacy and making a contribution.”
And what is the hardest part of her job?
“Getting to know each child and filling the needs of all of the children,” She answered. “There’s simply just not enough time in the day. We really have to think hard about what each child needs to be successful.”
She holds a B.S. in mathematics from Tuskegee University and an M.S. in early childhood from Troy State University. She also holds an Alternate Ed.S in teacher leadership from Walden University.
