ALBANY, Ga. — A $3,000 van stolen at 6:08 p.m. Wednesday from a church turned up Thursday at a Sylvester scrap yard, according to Dougherty County Police Department officials.
“We arrested a man before noon Thursday,” said DCPD Capt. Jimmy Sexton. “The van was at ACS Recyclers in Worth County.”
An employee at the recycling plant saw the news story and called the police, Sexton said. The 1996 Dodge 15-passenger van was recovered for First Mount Moriah Baptist Church at 4325 Nichols St.
Police arrested Richard Lee Clyde, 54, who they said was homeless. Police said Clyde was caught on video at the scrap yard. He was charged with motor vehicle theft and was in the Dougherty County Jail on Friday in lieu of a $5,000 bond, a jail spokeswoman said.
