Dougherty County School Board member Anita Williams-Brown, center, announced Wednesday that she will seek re-election to her at-large BOE seat against political newcomer Lane Price. The two will square off in July’s Democratic primary.
ALBANY, Ga. — Surrounded by supporters on the steps of the Dougherty County School Administration building, Anita Williams-Brown on Wednesday announced her intention to seek reelection to her at-large seat on the county School Board.
Williams-Brown, who is completing her first term on the BOE, will face newcomer Lane Price in July's Democratic primary.
"Right now one of the biggest problems the Dougherty County School system is facing is a matter of perception," Williams-Brown said. "Dougherty County has a lot of good things going on, but all we ever hear about are the bad things. Let's talk about the good things."
As chair of the DCSS Finance Committee, Williams-Brown is well-aware of the system's anticipated $9.6 million budget shortfall for FY 2012-13.
"We are working hard to balance the budget," she said. "We have to make some difficult decisions like perhaps closing a school."
When asked if she was in favor of repurposing Magnolia Elementary, Williams-Brown answered, "that's hard to say. We have to look at all our options, that is possible."
Williams-Brown is Vice Chairman of the Board and received her early education in the public schools of Dougherty County.
In 1969 she earned her B.S. degree in Health & Physical Education from Albany State University and in subsequent years has earned the M. Ed. from American University, an Educational Administration add-on from Albany State University, and Educational Specialist and Doctoral degrees in Curriculum and Instruction from Sarasota University.
She is a retired school administrator, CEO of Blessed Community Development, Inc. and Anita Williams Tax Service.
She currently pastors the Church of the Kingdom of God in Hawkinsville.

Dr. Anita Williams Brown is a fine person. Please don't judge her by what others do. And please try to get to know this lady. She stands for what is right and refuses to compromise herself. You can count on her to do what is right on the board. Regardless of the circumstances, this woman does what's right. She is also an experienced educator who knows education. Some of you miss the point and think that if a person makes one mistake then she is wrong. Please leave her there to do her job.

She didn't earn her portion in the "Gang of Four" for no reason. She earned it for very good reason and that is block voting based on color. That's prejudice.

After her undisclosed involvement with Murfree on a Board, she should have recused herself from the selection process. I can't vote for or against her, but people need to question her integrity. Plus look at any other potential partiallity she may have displayed to others besides Murfree.

Abstaining on the vote during Monday's meeting showed everyone who she is! If she won't hold administrators accountable for taxpayer money, she is wasting her seat on the Board. Put someone there who will do the job!

PEOPLE, DO WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE. THIS CANDIDATE HAS DONE NOTHING TO MOVE THE DCSS FORWARD AND IN FACT WAS AND IS INSTRUMENTAL IN THE CURRENT STATE OF AFFAIRS THE DCSS FINDS ITSELF IN. SHOW HER THE DOOR THERE ARE NO SECOND CHANCES IN THIS GAME.

VOTE..............LANE PRICE.................WE NEED REPLACEMENT THROUGH OUT THE BOARD. GET THESE OUT THAT HAVE NOT ACCOMPLISHED WHAT HAS NEEDED BE ACCOMPLISHED!!!! I HOPE WE SEE ALL NEW FACES ON THE BOARD ONCE THE ELECTIONS ARE OVER.

Dr. Anita Williams Brown is a fine person and a well-informed school board member. No one should ever question her character. She is a woman who will not compromise her beliefs in favor of the popular or politically correct thing to do. She's simply going to do what is right. One thing we have in our favor is we can count on her to do the right thing. That in itself should make us all feel a lot better. Don't judge her by what others do or don't do. We need her there. And please stop being so mean with your comments. These are human beings you're talking about. If you're that angry, why don't you go and try to get some help.

She didn't do what was right on Monday concerning the funds used illegaly to reimburse a parent for bail money. Abstaining in the vote allowed Goseer to get away with mishandling taxpayer money.
We aren't judging her by what others do - we are judging her for not doing what is right, and turning a blind eye to obvious incompetence.
