LEESBURG, Ga. — Phillip Phillips is coming home.

Don't worry Southwest Georgia voters, the bluesy 21-year-old "American Idol" finalist who calls Leesburg home did not get his walking paper from the popular Fox TV show Thursday night. Instead, he was announced as one of three finalists on TV's most popular show and will come home Saturday to be honored on Phillip Phillips Day.

Phillips; 20-year-old gospel singer Joshua Ledet of Westlake, La.; and 16-year-old pop singer Jessica Sanchez of San Diego were named as finalists of the fan-voted competition Thursday night, while18-year-old Hollie Cavanagh of McKinney, Texas, was eliminated as the show's low vote-getter.

"Idol" host Ryan Seacrest said during the telecast that 70 million viewer votes were cast this week.

"This is a real journey," "Idol" judge Jennifer Lopez said during Thursday's telecast. "This is not an easy show for these kids. That's why I feel so much when I'm watching you."

Phillips, who supplements his singing income by working at his family's pawn shop in Leesburg, has caught the attention of "American Idol" voters with his Dave Matthews-like vocals and his devil-may-care personality. Judge Stephen Tyler, who is the singer for rock supergroup Aerosmith, alluded to Phillips' refusal to conform on the air Thursday.

The Lee County Commission and The Leesburg City Council have adopted proclamations praising Phillips and officially making Saturday Phillip Phillips Day in the county and city. Leesburg Mayor Jim Quinn and Commission Chairman Ed Duffy are expected to present copies of the city and county proclamations to Phillips before a parade in the singer's honor, which will start at 2:30 p.m. House District 152 Rep. Ed Rynders is expected to make a similar presentation on behalf of Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal.

The short parade will proceed from Starkesville Avenue in Leesburg, travel down Main Street and end at the Lee County High School football stadium. There, Phillips will perform a short concert for what is expected to be a large audience.

"People are calling from all over the state saying they plan to come (to the celebration)," Leesburg City Councilwoman Judy Powell said at a special called council meeting Thursday.

All three of the "Idol" finalists will make appearances in their hometowns before returning to the show next week. Fox is expected to record footage at events for all three that will be used on the show.

Sanchez sings R&B crap pretty good but I would never and I mean NEVER buy anything she recorded. Not very likeable....I don't think America will vote for Sanchez in the end. Joshua is by far the best singer/performer and could headline in Vegas starting tomorrow and make a million. His performance last night of "It's a Man's World" by James Brown (the Godfather of Soul) was running through my head all day today. He could definitely win but if not, it just once again would prove that America is Racist to the Core (at least in the eyes of some). Philip is a very good singer/songwriter and his individuality and ability to re-arrange familiar songs and make them HIS make him the most talented performer remaining. The fact that J-Lo finds him sexy says a lot. He reminds me of Steve McQueen. Good luck, Philip and don't forget your friends on the way to the top!!

I hope it is between Phillip and Joshua. I don't think Jessica is mature enough to truly entertain yet. But, I see her getting a contract regardless, that is if she doesn't win. Sister, supposedly the person with the most votes wins. Now, it is just according to the support that each contestant has. We know Phillip has a lot of support with his hometown and surrounding area. I wouldn't say that whomever wins or doesn't win makes this racist. The top 12 this year has had the best talent and most of them will get contracts and the ones who are not chosen "American Idol" won't have to be tied down to them for a year or however long they are tied down to AI.

I hope Phillip wins and Joshua finishes second, truthfully I have only heard them sing a couple of songs, but Joshua's performance of that James Brown song Wednesday night in my opinion nearly blew the roof off.

I haven't cared for anything that joshua sang....UNTIL he did JBs Mans World! that was truly awesome. I enjoy the type of music that phillip sings more than the others, BUT I honestly believe that Jessica is the best singer on the stage! Could she be an American Idol? I think so. I've never voted in the 11 years and I'm not going to start now because I really don't care who wins. BUT if I were going to vote, it'd be for her.
