CUTHBERT -- Ruth Nell Goodman, 97, of Cuthbert died May 12, 2012 at Patterson Hospital in Cuthbert. Funeral services will be conducted May 15 at 11 a.m. at the Cuthbert United Methodist Church with Dr. David Seyle officiating. Interment will follow in East View Cemetery in Cuthbert.
Mrs. Goodman was born February 13, 1915 in Cordele, daughter of the late Charles A. and Marie Bolton Bowen. She was the wife of the late Loy Hiram Goodman. She was the secretary and bookkeeper of Auto Parks and Supply Company of Cuthbert.
Mrs. Goodman was a member of the Cuthbert United Methodist Church where she was the first female trustee, was a member of the Lucy Shepard United Methodist Women's Circle, and started the Goodie Ministry. She was one of the first two women to serve on the Randolph County Grand Jury.
Mrs. Goodman was a charter member of the Cuthbert Pilot Club in 1947 and had the honor of being installed as the third president by the International Pilot President, Ruby Newhall. She loved animals, especially dogs and fed all stray animals.
Mrs. Goodman is survived by a son, Gerry (Patricia) Goodman of Cuthbert; two grandchildren, Robert (Heidi) Goodman of Helena, AL, and Ann Marie (Shannon) Atkinson of Tifton; four great-grandchildren: Anna Beth Goodman, Jack Goodman, Jaden Atkinson, and Madelyn Atkinson; a sister, Charlene (Walter) Scholey of Menifee, CA; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Geraldine Bowen Barone.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Cuthbert United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 449, Cuthbert, GA 39840. The family will receive friends Monday from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
