ACCG to meet in Lee County

LEESBURG — The influential Association County Commissioners of Georgia will hold one of its six regional membership meetings in Lee County this summer.

ACCG President Clinton Perry, a Taylor County commissioner, and the organization’s executive director, Ross King, made the announcement last week.

“This is your opportunity to attend and invite your staff to attend a meeting that will highlight the latest ACCG partnerships that are revenue-generating or cost-saving measures for your county,” the pair said in a joint statement. “In addition, ACCG staff will provide attendees with a 2012 Legislative update and address what you and your staff need to know about: open meetings/open records as well as criminal justice and tax reform.”

The 10 a.m.-3 p.m. regional meeting in Lee County is set for June 26 at the county-owned Grand Island Club.

“We’re still in the planning stages, but Grand Island will cater lunch and we’re looking at possibly offering a golf outing for people who attend the meeting,” Lee County Clerk Christi Dockery said Monday.

In addition to the Lee County meeting, the ACCG will host regional meetings in Bartow County June 21, in Habersham County June 22, in Muscogee County June 25, in Ware County June 27 and in Emanuel County June 28.

Dougherty County Commissioner Lamar Hudgins is the Association County Commissioners’ District 10 representative, and he said the summer membership meetings are informative.

“I went — and some of our staff went — last year to one of the meetings in Pelham, and it was quite informative,” Hudgins said Monday. “I feel that ACCG is vital in that it is our connection to the General Assembly and to the governor. (The organization) gets involved in writing legislation and keeps counties abreast of new bills and how they affect them.

“ACCG provides quite a few services to its members, and they use these sessions to highlight some of the different aspects of government that will most affect members.”

Interested ACCG members may register for the Lee County meeting online at Prior registration is preferred.

Maybe our Tax Commissioner, Susan Smith, can be the speaker and update them on taxpayer sentiment of user fees being collected on annual tax bills.

Yep, she could give 'em a dose of that. Or perhaps an update on fees still not being collected at all despite all the furor, wailing, and gnashing of tooth. Some problems seem to hard to solve or so it appears. I am a believer in "cut it off", when it comes to garbage non-payment.
