APD probes robberies, assaults

ALBANY — With the robberies and aggravated assaults that took place, Albany Police Department officers were busy over the weekend.

Among the most recent incident unfolded on the 800 block of Cedar Avenue at around 12:30 a.m. Monday. Officials with the APD say 20-year-old Alexandria Frasier was sitting outside when three black males began randomly firing shots at her.

Frasier was struck by one of the bullets, and was taken to a hospital for treatment. There was no word on arrests as of Monday evening in connection to the incident.

At 840 W. Oglethorpe Blvd., the site of Regent Motel at 11:45 p.m. on Saturday, officers responded in reference to a possible robbery of a person.

Upon their arrival they made contact with the victim, identified by authorities as Ellis Porter, who stated that three young black males approached him and pointed a small handgun at him and then demanded the keys to his car.

The victim reportedly stated that he slapped the gun out of one of the suspect’s hands and the suspects began to run from the scene, but not before picking up the gun that was dropped. The victim stated he then chased them briefly on foot, but that all three suspects got away.

The suspects are thought to be 15-18 years of age, police officials say.

There was also an armed robbery at 518 Cherry Ave. at 5 a.m. Sunday, according to reports.

Officers responded to the incident, and upon their arrival, they made contact with the victim, identified by the APD as Jerry Coe, who stated that three young black males approached him, pointed a small handgun at him and demanded his money.

The suspects reportedly took Coe’s cell phone and some cash before fleeing the scene. The suspects were thought to be 15-18 years old.

Meanwhile, there was another armed robbery that took place between 4:50 p.m.-5:17 p.m on Saturday, reports indicate.

In that case, authorities say Crista Walker and Sterling Fasnow stated that they were walking along the 1600 block of Cromartie Beach Drive when a silver Ford Taurus kept passing by them.

Both stated that the vehicle pulled over, and three unknown black males jumped out of the vehicle and robbed them at gunpoint. The trio reportedly took cigarettes, cash and a cell phone.

No connection had been determined as of Monday afternoon regarding these incidents, a spokeswoman with the APD said.

Also, there was a shooting reported Saturday in the roadway of 1518 Malone Ave. In that case, authorities say 21-year-old Larry Butler and his girlfriend were arguing in the roadway when Tracy Gulley intervened.

When he did, Butler reportedly slapped his hand. At that time, officials say the suspect pulled out a handgun and shot the victim. Butler was grazed by the bullet and transported to a hospital for treatment, officials say.

The suspect was later identified as 39-year-old Gulley. A spokeswoman for the Dougherty County Jail said Monday afternoon that Gulley had been charged with aggravated assault.
