Local high school graduations set to begin Friday

ALBANY, Ga. — More than 1,500 high school seniors will walk across stages and pick up diplomas in the Albany Metro area this weekend and next.

The graduation ceremonies will kick off Friday at 7 p.m. when 33 Sherwood Christian Academy seniors bid their high school years goodbye in the Sherwood Baptist Church worship center.

Dougherty County’s four high schools will hold their graduation exercises on Saturday at the Albany Civic Center.

Albany High will graduate 136 seniors at 9 a.m. followed by Westover High, which will graduate 327 seniors at 11:30 a.m. Monroe High’s graduation exercise will be held at 2 p.m. with 164 picking up diplomas. Dougherty High, which is graduating 130 seniors, will close of the day’s exercises at 4:30 p.m.

Tickets are required for each of the four Albany public high school and can be obtained from the graduating seniors.

On Sunday, Deerfield-Windsor School will conduct its graduation exercises when 71 seniors pick up their diplomas at 3 p.m. in the W.T. Henry Gymnasium located on the DWS upper school campus.

Other high school graduations will also take place on Saturday. Worth County High Will graduate 190 seniors at 8 a.m. at the football stadium; Calhoun County will see 32 graduate at 9 a.m. in the school gym; and Terrell County will graduate 87 seniors at 9 a.m. in the school gym.

Mitchell County will hold its graduation exercise on May 25 at 7 p.m. when 66 seniors pick up diplomas in the high school gym.

Lee County, will hold its graduation on Saturday, May 26 at 8:30 that morning at the LCHS football stadium. School officials say 365 will graduate.

FIRST - congradulations seniors. Wish you well in your path to life. Second - Do they still give out certificates of attendance? When I first heard this years ago I thought they were kidding.

Notice that Westover's graduating class is about as large as Albany High School, Dougherty High School, and half of Monroe High School's graduating classes combined!!!
