Russ Chesser has been chosen as the new Worth County High School principal.
SYLVESTER, Ga. — Russ Chesser, who has been a principal in the Bibb County School System since 2007, has been named as the new principal at Worth County High School.
The Worth County School Board made the announcement Thursday in an email.
“We are excited to have Dr. Chesser as a member of the administrative staff at Worth County High School,” Worth School Superintendent Barbara Thomas said in the release. “He brings a wealth of knowledge and the experience necessary to continue to guide the school and our system in the right direction.”
Chesser becomes WCHS principal for the coming school term, Worth officials said.
“My family and I are very excited about our move to Sylvester to join the Worth County School System and serve the community,” Chesser said in the news release. “I am looking forward to meeting the staff, students and parents associated with Worth County High School. I am indeed blessed to have this opportunity.”
Chesser has been principal at Hutchings High School since 2010 and was principal of Porter Elementary School (2007-09). Before that, he was principal at West Jackson Middle School (2005/06); assistant principal at West Jackson Middle School (2001-04); teacher at Charlton County High School (1994-2001), and a substitute teacher for Charlton County Schools (1991-93).
He served in the Air Force for 17 years, including active duty, Air Force Reserves and Air National Guard. Chesser has an Ed.D in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University; an M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from Valdosta State University, and a B.S. in Middle Grades Education from Armstrong Atlantic University.
Chesser has completed extensive leadership training through Georgia Leadership Institute for School Improvement. His leadership accomplishments include guiding a “Needs Improvement” school to AYP status for consecutive years and removal from the “Needs Improvement” status, implementing Co-teaching, and re-instating the PTO. He has also served as a grant writer.
