SYLVESTER -- Mrs. Catherine Zorn Harrison, 91, of Sylvester died Saturday May 19, 2012 at Phoebe Worth Medical Center.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday May 21, 2012 at Pinson Memorial United Methodist Church with interment to follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery with Rev. Mike Davis officiating.
Mrs. Harrison was born in Sycamore, Turner County, on December 12, 1920 to the late James Herschel and Ola McMurrain Zorn. She graduated from Sycamore High School in May 1938, and married Middleton Cleaton (M.C.) Harrison, of Bethlehem, Barrow County, Georgia on July 7, 1938 at the home of her parents in Sycamore. They celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary in 2006 at home with their family members prior to her husband's death on December 26, 2006. The Harrisons lived in Sycamore, Leslie, Morgan and Sumner prior to moving to Sylvester in 1954. Mrs. Harrison retired in 1980 after 25 years of service with the law firm of Ford and Houston as an office manager. She joined Pinson Memorial United Methodist Church in 1954 where she was a member of the Chancel Choir under the direction of the late Eugene Wyles, Master Musician, until she retired in December of 2002 because of health reasons. She sang solos at many weddings and funerals throughout the years. Mrs. Harrison loved her church and was very active in it during her younger years. She served on the Centennial Committee, having researched and written the history of the Woman's Society Christian Service, now the United Methodist Women, published in the 100th anniversary book for "Pinson Memorial United Methodist Church 1894-1994". Mrs. Harrison also wrote the United Methodist Women news and happenings published in Pinson's monthly "Pin Notes. She served as president, vice president and secretary to Pinson's UMW, circle leader, Chairman of Christian Personhood, of membership, and of the nominating committee. She was also a member of Pinson's Administrative Board; Council on Ministries, serving as secretary; Adult Coordinator; Older Adult Coordinator' Chairperson of Evangelism, Prayer Chain and Food Pantry. She was a charter member of the Sunshine Club and the Joe S. Cook Sunday School Class. She received the Women's Society of Christian Service Life Membership Pin, as outstanding member, the United Methodist Women's Past President Pin and received the honor of being named Quiet Disciple by her fellow United Methodist Women in 1997. She also enjoyed her membership in the Green Thumb Garden Club and in the Worth Players, starring in three productions under director Claire Whifield. She was a member of the Worth County High School Band Parents and served as Secretary of the Sylvester High School PTA at the times her daughters were in school.
Survivors include her daughters, Cynthia H. Reese (Ed) of Albany, Phyllis H. McAlister (Mike) of Albany, Martha Harrison of Asheville, NC; grandchildren, Ed Reese, Jr. of Albany, Michael Cleat McAlister of Albany, Robin Reese Wright of Lake Mary, FL, Quillon Orta (Deana) of Ashville, NC, Britt McAlister of New York; great granddaughters, Noelle Smith and Ayla Catherine Orta of Ashville, NC; sister, Mae Ola Gibson of Bainbridge; sisters-in-law, Myrle Arnold Zorn of Sycamore , Mary Harrison Hamilton of Waycross, and a number of beloved nieces, nephews and their families.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two brothers, O'Neal Zorn and Nolan Zorn; two sisters, Blanche Whitley and Latrelle Nicholson and a nephew, Thomas O'Neal Zorn.
The family will receive friends Monday from 1:00 until service hour at the church.
