Home school help coming to Albany area

ALBANY -- Accredited home school assistance is coming this school year to homeschooling families in the greater Albany area. An informational/registration meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday at LifeGate Church.

Veritas Classical Schools is opening the doors for K-12 for the 2012-13 school year. Veritas Classical Schools have been helping home school parents by providing curriculum with one or two day a week classes since 1995, officials with the organization say.

The goal of Veritas is to offer home school families a unique complement to their home study program with an emphasis on a classical, Christian model of education that is accredited, school officials say.

The Albany campus is in the accreditation process with the Georgia Accrediting Commission, with Veritas officials anticipating it will be completed in September.

Functioning in the role of tutor, Veritas assists parents in their educational roles. The student attends Veritas one day per week during the school year for math and science and takes humanities on another day.

With the extension of the younger grades, the company may also be looking for a few Christian, part-time teachers, who understand and/or are open to learning the classical method of education. To request a teacher application or for information, contact Cory Wise at veritasalbanygmail.com.

I'm surprised that this isn't a Sherwood sponsored initiative.
